This event will feature the official roll-out of COSPAR’s “Heliophysics Guidelines”. This document codifies the definitions of Heliophysics and its associated applied branch of space weather, while outlining a set of principles by which the international community can coalesce. Heliophysics, the study of the Sun and its effects throughout the solar system, is an umbrella term that organizes solar physics, space physics, and aeronomy into a new scientific domain. It is inherently cross-disciplinary and international and involves a wide array of space- and ground-based assets that can be combined, along with theory and modeling efforts, into holistic studies of the systems that comprise Heliophysics. The purpose of this event is to announce and provide a brief overview of the “Heliophysics Guidelines”, its development over the past few years, and the future outlook for unifying the worldwide Heliophysics community.
